One dead, several hurt after severe turbulence on London-Singapore SIA flight

One person was dead and several others were injured after Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight SQ321 from London to Singapore encountered severe turbulence en route, according to the airline.

SIA said the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew on board was diverted to Bangkok and landed at 3.45pm local time today.

“Singapore Airlines offers its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. We will provide regular updates on our Facebook and X accounts,” it said on Facebook.

SIA said its priority is to provide all possible assistance to all passengers and crew on board the aircraft.

The carrier said it is working with the local authorities in Thailand to provide the necessary medical assistance, and sending a team to Bangkok to provide any additional assistance needed.

“I am deeply saddened to learn about the incident onboard Singapore Airlines flight SQ321 from London Heathrow to Singapore,” said Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat on his Facebook.

Chee added that the Singapore Transport Ministry, Foreign Affairs Ministry, Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, and Changi Airport officials as well as SIA staff are providing support to the affected passengers and their families.

“My deepest condolences to the family of the deceased,” he wrote.

Singapore Airlines in an update on Facebook said as of 7.50pm Singapore time, 18 individuals have been hospitalised while 12 are receiving treatment at hospitals.

“The remaining passengers and crew are being examined and given treatment, where necessary, at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok,” it said.

Singapore Airlines has also set up a hotline for relatives seeking information at +65 6542 3311.
