PAS has decried an “edited” video that has emerged depicting party secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan talking about Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s alleged homosexuality while campaigning in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.
The Islamist party’s information chief Nadzir Helmi said the video was deliberately edited out of context and circulated with malicious intent.
“PAS studied the entirety of Takiyuddin’s speech, and it was merely a reiteration of the remark by the opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin who defended the prime minister after he was shamed by an international news portal (Agenzia Nova).
“Takiyuddin’s (above) remark was merely a question of why the prime minister has yet to take any action to clear his name after the slander,” Nadzir said in a statement today.
In December 2022, Hamzah goaded Anwar in Parliament to sue Italian news outlet Agenzia Nova, which published a story calling the latter a “full-blown homosexual”. The article remains online but is inaccessible in Malaysia.
Hamzah said it was an insult to Anwar and urged the premier to take legal action.

Anwar had previously been convicted of sodomy but was pardoned by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in 2018.
Nadzir added that it was clear Takiyuddin’s speech had been edited to omit its original context.
“PAS is looking at taking legal action against those who edited the video so that they can learn their lesson,” he said. - Mkini
