Pupil, 11, left out in hot sun – police end probe

Ampang Jaya police chief Azam Ismail said police have completed an investigation into the report filed by the boy’s mother, Mogahana Selvi.

PETALING JAYA: Police have completed investigations into a mother’s allegation that her primary school son was ordered by his teacher to stand under the hot sun for more than two hours.

A medical officer confirmed that the boy had suffered heat exhaustion, said Ampang Jaya police chief Azam Ismail, Bernama reported.

He said the investigation paper has been referred to the public prosecutor’s office for further action.

Azam said the 11-year-old boy was punished along with three others by their teacher, aged 37.

The boy’s mother, AD Mogahana Selvi, 34, told FMT that her son was ordered to stand under the sun in the middle of the school field from 10am to about 12.50pm on April 30.

She said her son’s eyes were red when he came home, and said he did not feel well. She then took him to hospital, where he fainted at the emergency department, she said.

She claimed that her son told her he was punished after complaining to the teacher that a classmate threw a water bottle at him.

“But the kid who threw the water bottle at my son was not punished,” she said, adding that she filed the police report against the teacher on the day of the incident.

Azam said the case was investigated under the Child Act for ill-treatment of a child. - FMT
