Deputy Unity Minister Saraswathy Kandasamy has lodged a police report against former Bagan Dalam assemblyperson Satees Muniandy and local Tamil news portal Makkal Osai for allegedly spreading misinformation.
In the police report sighted by Malaysiakini, Saraswathy denied Satees and Makkal Osai’s claim that she had an outstanding annual income tax payment arrears worth RM200,000.
"This false information, containing allegations, elements of slander and defamation, has been uploaded on Makkal Osai without any verification of the authenticity of the information.
"Satees has also made and circulated a video recording alleging that I have committed a tax crime," she said in the report.
Putrajaya district police chief Asmadi Abdul Aziz told Malaysiakini he received the report at 3:43pm yesterday.
The case is being probed under Section 500 of the Penal Code (Defamation) and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998, he added.
Malaysiakini has reached out to Saraswathy for further information on the matter.
Previously, Malaysiakini sighted a document from the Inland Revenue Board granting Saraswathy a “temporary permit” for the PKR vice-president to travel abroad for medical purposes.
There was also a breakdown of the annual income tax, from 2010 until 2020, that Saraswathy allegedly failed to settle.
The senator had also previously announced that she would sue Makkal Osai for spreading misinformation. - Mkini
