PETALING JAYA: A law that makes it compulsory to separate solid waste into recyclables and non-recyclables will be enforced in Selangor soon, housing and local government minister Nga Kor Ming said.

“We have received the approval letter from the state government (to implement the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007),” Nga said after officiating the National Landscape Day 2024 here.

The act, also known as Act 672, is currently enforced in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Pahang, Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Perlis and Kedah.

The Act aims to ensure uniformity of laws in regulating solid waste management and public cleansing to ensure more efficient waste management and stimulate the circular economy.

Nga also said the ministry and state government would identify the assets involved in the implementation of the Act, as well as the related regulations and policies.

He went on to reveal that the ministry was discussing with the Penang state government on implementing Act 672. - FMT
