Skip rhetoric and offer tangible solutions, Charles tells Selangor MB's aide

Irate after being called a liar, ex-MP Charles Santiago said the Indian community needs real solutions to their plight instead of empty rhetoric.

“It’s easy to gloss over with vague words. Promises to look into issues are even easier.

“These problems are decades long. What are the tangible solutions proposed? Don’t vomit rhetoric. Give me real answers,” Charles (above) said on X.

Yesterday, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari’s aide accused Charles of painting an inaccurate picture about his boss not meeting with Indian voters in Kuala Kubu Baharu to address their grievances.

Jay Jay Denis told Malaysiakini that the menteri besar, together with Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, met with 120 Indian leaders from Hulu Selangor who represented various NGOs, residents’ associations, and education groups late yesterday evening in a closed-door meeting.

The menteri besar’s press secretary said Saifuddin had also reiterated Putrajaya’s commitment to resolve the issue of citizenship applications, especially among the Indian community.

“This proves that Charles’ allegation that the Selangor menteri besar not meeting with Indian voters is a lie and not reflective of the real situation,” Jay Jay was reported as saying.

‘Mind your language’

Urging Jay Jay to mind his language, Charles also called upon the former to be transparent about the timelines and detail what was discussed in the “closed-door meeting”.

“This is not a plot in a movie. Secret meetings? Really? Let’s hope these promises made without public accountability aren’t forgotten after Saturday,” the former Klang MP said.

While he understands the need to “plug holes in haste”, Charles said Jay Jay should reveal what was discussed in the meetings and lay out plans to mitigate grievances.

“This is especially so after he claims the MB has had ongoing meetings.”
