SEREMBAN: The Negeri Sembilan government has been told to set up a special committee to address the frequent pollution that occurs in Sungai Linggi which affects the supply of water to residents, especially in Port Dickson.

Choo Ken Hwa (PH-Lukut) said the committee should comprise elected representatives as well as the relevant departments and agencies to study the matter in detail.

Choo said rivers, which are sources of raw water, needed better protection or residents would be adversely affected.

“If the river gets contaminated with diesel, as what happened yesterday, everyone won’t get water supply,” he said when winding up the debate on the motion of thanks for the royal address at the 15th Negeri Sembilan state legislative assembly here today.

Choo said since becoming the elected representative in 2018, he had received more than 50 complaints about water supply disruptions.

Meanwhile, Saiful Yazan Sulaiman (BN-Johol), asked the state government to allow local and foreign investors to develop industrial hubs in other districts instead of just focussing on Seremban and Port Dickson.

“We must also take advantage of Johor’s proximity to Melaka, in addition to its near-perfect infrastructure facilities,” he said.

Meanwhile, opposition leader Hanifah Abu Baker (PN-Labu) urged the state government to consider increasing the allowance of imams.

“How can we make Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir’s desire to make mosques and suraus a place to further spread the message of Islam if the allowance for imams is only RM800?” he said. - FMT
