An Umno supreme council member has called for Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli to resign after the latter’s son and former aide were charged with submitting false claims.
Mohd Puad Zarkashi said on Facebook that such crimes could be committed because the state administration was weak and easily deceived.
“It wouldn’t have happened if Shukri wasn’t the menteri besar. His administration is weak.
“Fortunately, Perlis is a poor state. There are no mega projects that can be stolen from.
“With a weak and easily deceived administration, Perlis will further retrogress,” said the Umno leader last night.
Puad (above) also told PAS not to respond with a “standard answer” that Shukri need not resign as those accused have not been found guilty.
“They will say, after all, it is not the Perlis MB who has been charged.
“The people should not be surprised. There is no need to say PAS is an Islamist party. PAS is not an Islamist party. Haram to others, halal to PAS.”
Shukri is the Perikatan Nasional lawmaker for the Sanglang seat in the Perlis assembly.
MB’s son claims trail
Shukri’s son, Mohd Syafeeq, was charged in the Kangar Sessions Court today with submitting false claims of more than RM19,000.
The 35-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read before judge Norsalha Hamzah.
Yesterday, MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said Syafeeq, who owns a company, would be charged in Perlis and that the menteri besar’s former political secretary would be charged in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court.
“Both will be charged under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009,” he told Bernama.
Syafeeq was remanded by the MACC on April 24 with five other suspects to help in investigations into the false claim case but was released on bail on April 26. - Mkini
