The Kelantan state assembly is still awaiting an official notification letter from Bersatu before deciding on the status of Nenggiri assemblyperson Mohd Azizi Abu Naim.
Legislative speaker Mohd Amar Abdullah confirmed that Azizi (above) is still an assemblyperson until an official decision is made.
“As of now, we are still waiting for an official letter from Bersatu regarding Azizi’s status.
“Until there is an official decision from the speaker or the state assembly, he remains an assemblyperson,” he told Malaysiakini yesterday.
Azizi, who is also Gua Musang MP, is one of seven elected representatives that Bersatu wants to oust and have their seats vacated.
They include five other MPs - Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang) and Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).
Another affected representative is Selat Klang assemblyperson Abdul Rashid Asari.
The seven had declared support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s Madani coalition and were reported to have not abided by a recent party directive to affirm their loyalty to Bersatu.
Azizi stated that the seven Bersatu representatives who failed to sign the party’s loyalty pledge before the May 31 deadline are awaiting answers to their queries regarding the validity of the notice given to them.
Bersatu is expected to file notices to the Dewan Rakyat and the Selangor and Kelantan legislative assemblies to vacate the seats of the rebel representatives. - Mkini
