The gang, who wore what looked like security guards’ uniforms, walked into the premises at Plaza Metro Kajang at 3.17pm, Kajang deputy police chief Nasir Drahman said.
They were armed with a rifle and two pistols.
After they began smashing the glass showcase with what appeared to be sledgehammers, the man with the rifle fired a shot at the wall, Nasir said.
They scooped up a number of items and escaped through the basement car park.
“The losses cannot be determined yet as the robbery is still being investigated,” Nasir said in a statement tonight.
He said police were examining closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage and interviewing several witnesses.
It is not known if there were customers in the shop, or the number of workers at the time.
A video clip of the robbery making its rounds on social media shows two masked men breaking the showcase with what appear to be sledgehammers, while another, armed with a rifle and a pistol, stood as a lookout.
Nasir said the case is being investigated under Section 3 of the Firearms Act 1971, which carries the death penalty.
He also urged those with information to contact the nearest police station or investigating officer Afiq Farhan Nor at 012-2446768. - FMT
