King's coronation: International concerts postponed, cancelled

Several concerts featuring foreign artistes have been cancelled or postponed to make way for Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar on July 20.

The Central Agency for Application for Filming and Performance by Foreign Artistes (Puspal) said it received five applications to hold concerts featuring foreign artistes on that date.

It said organisers have been “advised” not to proceed “out of respect for the coronation of the 17th Yang Di-Pertuan Agong”.

“Therefore, the concert organisers involved have been advised to change the concert date and hold it on a new date in line with the Puspal guidelines,” it said in a statement today.

It noted that paragraph 16.1(f) of the guidelines bans concerts featuring foreign artistes on “other dates deemed unsuitable by the government or state governments”.

In immediate response, Future Sound Asia Sdn Bhd announced that the two-day Good Vibes Festival is cancelled and will issue full refunds to those who have bought tickets.

“Due to the nature of Good Vibes Festival which involves multiple touring acts over multiple days, rescheduling the festival is not possible,” it said.

The event was originally slated to take place from July 20 to July 21 at Resorts World Awana featuring foreign artistes such as Japanese singer-songwriter Joji, American rapper Russ, Colombian singer J Balvin and South Korean singer and DJ Peggy Gou.

Postponement

Taiwan pop and folk singer Tsai Chin, slated to perform at the Axiata Arena Bukit Jalil on July 20, will perform on July 21 instead.

In its announcement last week, the organiser Star Fortress Sdn Bhd said the postponement is done out of deference to the coronation ceremony, and those who can’t make it on the new date can request a refund.

Another event that could potentially be affected by Puspal’s announcement today features Korean singer-songwriter Kwon Jeong-yeol, who is slated to perform at Ex-Eight in Subang Jaya on July 20.

As of the time of writing, the organiser Banyak Bagus Entertainment has yet to announce its plans for the concert in light of Puspal’s announcement. - Mkini
