KLUANG: Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has criticised PAS deputy election chief Annuar Musa for using the family of former Mahkota assemblyman Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain as material for his political campaign.
He urged the former Umno man to maintain respect and decorum in campaigning.
said Zahid at a press conference here.We must be respectful, whether someone is still with us or not. We must be mindful of the feelings of their family members,
Yesterday, Sharifah’s son, Wan Hibatullah Abu Bakar, denied his family would be holding tahlil prayers with Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders and election workers next week.
Wan Hibatullah said his family was never informed of such an arrangement and shared a screenshot of Annuar’s Facebook post claiming that the prayers would be held next Tuesday with Sharifah’s family.
Annuar claimed the event was part of PN’s agenda for the Mahkota by-election campaign and would involve other coalition leaders.
Tahlil prayers are typically performed by family and friends as a way to honour the deceased and to seek forgiveness and blessings for them in the afterlife.
Separately, Zahid refused to comment when asked about PN information chief Azmin Ali’s challenge to Johor menteri besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi to form a unity state government if BN candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah wins the upcoming Mahkota by-election.
Azmin, who is also PN’s director for the Mahkota by-election, told a ceramah last night that Umno would become
if Syed Hussien wins the by-election on Sept 28.more arrogant
Azmin had said.Is there a unity government? Are they really united? They say they have a unity government at the federal level. Why isn’t there one in Johor?
The Sept 28 Mahkota by-election was called following the death of Sharifah on Aug 2 due to internal bleeding.
The by-election will see a straight fight between Syed Hussien and PN’s Haizan Jaafar. Early voting is set for Sept 24. - FMT
