More than 2.7 million loans had not been repaid, this amounted to a total of RM32 billion outstanding, higher education minister Zambry Abdul Kadir said in a written reply to Pang Hok Liong (PH-Labis).
Pang had asked about PTPTN’s total outstanding debt as of 2023 and the total number of borrowers from the Malay, Chinese, and Indian communities.
Zambry said 2.8 million loans (72%) went to Bumiputera students while 1.1 million loans (28%) were made to non-Bumiputera students.
Zambry added that there are no quotas or allocations set for the PTPTN loans, which are available to all Malaysian citizens offered places at public universities, private universities, and polytechnics. - FMT
