Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad says the party will not join any coalition, but may consider an agreement similar to the 2021 government-opposition MoU.

Speaking at a public dialogue session here last night, the former federal minister reiterated that the party would not join forces with any coalition even if GE16 results in a hung parliament.
“But we would not mind signing an agreement similar to that which then prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob signed with the opposition,” he said, referring to a 2021 memorandum of understanding between the government and opposition covering key reforms.
He said such an arrangement would only be considered as a last resort to ensure the stability of a future administration.
“But Bersama won’t join them (the other coalitions). We will, however, push for reforms under the agreement,” he said.
Speculation has grown over the possibility of a snap GE16, with Johor and Negeri Sembilan set to hold state elections on July 11 and Aug 1, respectively.
Bersama leader Rafizi Ramli previously said that the party would stay out of coalitions ahead of the state polls.
In a Sinar Harian report, Rafizi said the move would allow the party to pursue its own electoral strategies without being bound by agreements with other parties.
Rafizi and Nik Nazmi previously said the party had opened applications to all Malaysians interested in being election candidates, with priority given to those in Johor and Negeri Sembilan.
Applicants must register as members and go through a three-phase assessment system that requires them to declare their income and assets along with their education, career, and family backgrounds.
They will be screened based on their backgrounds, while qualitative surveys will be conducted in their local communities to gather feedback on them.
Rafizi also said Bersama hoped to have 70% of its election candidates under the age of 50, and would do its best to field as many women candidates as possible. - FMT
