ROMPIN: Police have urged parents of students at a religious school here to lodge reports if their children have been bullied, following an allegation made by a mother today.

Rompin deputy district police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohamad Zamri Mohamad Zaber said police had so far received only two reports regarding the incident, which occurred at the school hostel on Sept 12.

"If there are any other incidents or students who have been victimised, come and lodge a report. We will investigate," he said when contacted today.

He was commenting on claims by Siti Rohani Yusof, 40, whose son was among two students allegedly assaulted by five senior students at the school hostel on Sept 12.

She claimed that more than 10 other students had previously been assaulted by the same seniors, but the incidents were never reported.

Meanwhile, Zamri said the Sept 12 incident involving the two Form Two students was the first bullying case reported at the religious school.

He said police had also recorded statements from the school management, including the warden, as well as the five suspects accused of injuring the two victims, both aged 14.

Zamri said the five suspects, aged between 16 and 17, had been released on police bail.

The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting, which carries a maximum jail term of two years, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Earlier, Siti Rohani told a press conference that the incident had left her family traumatised after the suspects allegedly hit her son with a broomstick and threatened him with a penknife. - NST
