Two religious school students assaulted by seniors after skipping class

ROMPIN: Two religious school students were assaulted by five senior students at a hostel here on Sept 12, after one of them allegedly skipped a religious class, police said.

Rompin deputy district police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohamad Zamri Mohamad Zaber said the two Form Two students were called into a room by their seniors around midnight before being beaten.

"They went to the hostel room, where both victims were beaten by five suspects comprising three Form Five and two Form Four students.

"The attack stemmed from one of the victims skipping a religious class, while the other was claimed to be conspiring with him. The victims suffered injuries to their arms and bodies," he said in a statement today.

Zamri said the victims' parents lodged separate police reports at 1pm on Sept 17, alleging that their children had been beaten by the five male students.

He said police arrested all five suspects for questioning on the same day before releasing them on police bail.

The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting, which carries a maximum jail term of two years, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Earlier, the mother of one of the victims, Siti Rohani Yusof, claimed the incident had left her family traumatised after the suspects allegedly hit her son with a broomstick and threatened him with a penknife.

She also claimed the school had been slow to take action, prompting her to lodge a police report and transfer her son out of the school. - NST
