TAWAU: A 19-year-old woman was raped by her neighbour, whom she had allowed into her home to help repair her mobile phone.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Rosdi Mat Jusoh said police received a report from the victim, who alleged that she was raped by a suspect known to her at a People's Housing Project here last Tuesday.
Rosdi said the 26-year-old man, who works as a barber, was arrested by a team of police officers from the Tawau district police headquarters Criminal Investigation Division at his home about 10pm on Thursday.
Preliminary investigations found that the incident was believed to have occurred after the victim allowed the suspect into her home to help repair her mobile phone.
"The suspect is then believed to have taken the victim to a room before committing the alleged offence," he said in a statement today.
The suspect has been remanded for seven days until Sept 25. - NST
