Member of Parliament for Kapar S Manikavasagam has received a compact disc containing the full-length sex video that purportedly implicates Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim, sources told Malaysia Chronicle.
"We will lodge a police report and the CD will be produced and handed over to them," PKR vice president N Surendran confirmed to Malaysia Chronicle.
Manikavasagam and other PKR leaders are expected to make the complaint at the Dang Wangi police headquarters at 10.30am on Saturday, April 30.
Destroying Anwar
The 21-minute sex video had cropped up last month, on the same day the Sarawak legislative assembly was dissolved paving the way for state polls. It showed a man resembling Anwar having sex with a female sex worker.
Three men calling themselves the Datuk T trio had tried to annonymously screen the video to a group of journalists.
The three were businessman Shazryl, former Malacca chief minister Rahim Thamby Chik and Perkasa treasurer Shuaib Lazim. All have links to Prime Minister Najib Razak and former premier Mahathir Mohamad.
Their purpose, they said, was to show to the Malaysian public that Anwar was not a fit leader. They also showed the tape to various leaders in Anwar's Pakatan Rakyat coalition and tried to lure these men over to the BN.
But screening sexually explicit tapes in public is illegal in Malaysia and punishable by jail of up to 5 years. However, the police have failed to arrest or even charge the trio, sparking accusations that they were being "protected" and refinforcing public belief that Najib was behing the move to discredit his arch rival Anwar.
"There was already distribution of a pornographic video and I think that the police gave the distributors protection. If not, it is impossible that the video clip can be distributed without police action and I had actually told the police about the crime of distributing pornography without pressure or action from the police," Anwar had told reporters on Thursday.
On Friday, the three men arrived at the Masjid Amru al As in Sentul, Kuala Lumpur at 4.15pm, apparently wearing bullet-proof vests for an oath-taking rite that pundits said was aimed at inflicting maximum negative publicity for Anwar.
Only Shazryl performed the sumpah laknat (or oath-cum-curse) rite at about 4.20pm.
Swearing that it was Anwar and himself who were the men in the video, and that it was Anwar who had performed the sex acts, Shazryl said: “If I have committed slander then Allah will lay a curse on me."
Najib's hand seen
Meanwhile, Muslim leaders as well as prominent citizens have called on the Najib administraion to put its foot down on porn and smut politics.
"Given the extreme nature and statements being made, it is proper for the government to put them in their place especially if the people feel that this is what they deserve," Ramon Navaratnam, chairman of the Centre for Public Policy Studies, told Malaysia Chronicle.
President of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Malaysia and head of the Melaka-Johore Catholic diocese, Dr Paul Tan Chee Ing, also publicly denounced the government-controlled TV3 for showing stills of the snippets during its 8pm prime time news.
"No person of conscience can fail to deplore this permissiveness, this inaction in the face of a puerile voyeurism that has now reached a nadir," Paul had warned.
But Najib was unperturbed, and chose to continue giving his tacit backing to the Datuk T trio.
“This is a personal issue and the matter does not concern Umno or the government. Whoever feels that they want tosumpah laknat then that is up to them. We don’t encourage and we won’t stop them," Najib told reporters on Friday.
The PM did not explain why the police and FRU personnel had been deployed to help the trio get into the mosque and to ensure their safety throughout the ceremony, which had been marred by chaos. - Malaysia Chronicle
