The Lembah Pantai MP reminds the FT Minister of his challenge to a debate on the government's decision to utilise RM1.5 billion from EPF for low-cost housing.
“I challenge him to a televised debate on this scheme so that the rakyat will not be shortchanged,” said Nurul, who is also PKR vice -president.
Raja Nong Chik challenged Nurul and DAP’s PJ Utara MP, Tony Pua, on Feb 5 to a public debate over the RM1.5 billion EPF funds to be used for a low-cost housing loan scheme for the poor.
Raja Nong Chik’s challenge came in the wake of the two opposition MPs’ criticism of the scheme.
However since the beginning of this month, posters of Nurul being supportive of Nong Chik’s plan to use RM1.5 billion have been appearing in the mainstream newspapers.
‘Nong Chik out of touch’
On Feb 8, the debate challenge was accepted by both of them but since then there has been no developments.
In January, Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak announced that the scheme will be launched on March 1 under the National Economic Action Council’s People Housing Programme as well as Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s public housing scheme.
“He (Raja Nong Chik) is so out of touch with the common poor. To the minister, an RM82 saving is miniscule and immaterial,” said Nurul, referring to her proposal that successful loan applicants need only pay RM82 at an interest rate of 2.5%.
The current proposed interest rate is 6%.
“Does he even know that RM124 is the monthly rental payment for the for DBKL’s current housing scheme for the poor, and those targeted in this scheme earn below RM1,000 a month?” asked Nurul.
