Police official says Facebook and Twitter threaten national security

Social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter have made Malaysians more“liberal” and thus more willing to commit acts that can "threaten" the national security of this country, a top police official have said.

Internal security and public order director Datuk Salleh Mat Rasid said the internet posed a challenge to the police as it has allowed people “to know what was going on in and outside the country”.

This means Datuk Salleh is very much in favour of some sort of dictatorship and a one-party rule in this country, like the one of Nazi or Fascist kind of governing institution. He simply wants the BN federal government (his bosses up there) to get rid of democracy as soon as possible in order to make things easy for the police and so that the police special branch too can roll out their terminators to get rid of dissidents and oppositions to this government.

Datuk Salleh wanted the force to be given full authority to purge the people without fear, he wanted the force to be given the vast powers of extermination like the Gestapo (Nazi Germany), OVRA (the Italian Fascists), KGB (Soviet), Stasi (East German), Securitate (Romania) andTokko (Imperial Japan).

Come on Datuk Salleh, you are being too childish in saying all these! From the statement that you had made, it made that like you are fed up with democracy, human rights and our people's freedom of expression. First of all, who directed the police to impose such control that you and your men aren't happy of doing it? Go ask the inspector-general of police or the home affairs minister (the Umno vice president), the two of your bosses up there who dictate such an impossible tasks for all your men to carry out.

Why blame the people, Facebook and Twitter for all the "out of control"situation in the police force? Democracy is the pillar of this country. The government of the day is democratically elected by the people. If this government is seeing its people as a threat to them just because of democracy, then we should change the government as soon as possible, before the police force (of which, you are one of them) is unleash to get rid of our people.

In this case, how is the police going to improve its public image when they still have top brass like Datuk Salleh who is blatantly against democracy, human rights and our people's freedom of expression?

Just because the traditional mainstream medias are fully-controlled and owned by the Umno-led BN government and their cronies, no independent or fair avenues on the ground are available anymore. That is why online news portals and blogs of the partisans exist today. That is why people give their views and facts via Facebook and Twitter today because those traditional mainstream medias has indeed shut off the people for good.

The other one is Liberalism and Democracy should not be viewed as a threat to the national security as mentioned by Datuk Salleh. He is completely wrong and ignorant on how is this country is supposed to look like. It looks like he has never read newspapers nor surge the internet before in his live to make comparisons, analyze its views and contents, to evaluate who is wrong and who is right, what are the dos and don'ts and so on.

Our people has their every right to make various comparisons, be it political or governance, to analyze the situation, and to put it to the situation to see if such and such could be applied in this country or otherwise. In the end of the day, it is the people who are voters, who will finally elect the government of their choice. And this is what Datuk Salleh wanted to terminate, the normal democratic process of this country in order to make thing easy for his men.

One suggestion for this police director. Datuk Salleh should advise the prime minister and his cabinet ministers to terminate their Facebook and Twitter accounts too.
