KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 — Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) is seeking regulatory approval to begin water rationing exercises for parts of the Klang Valley, The Star reported on its website today.
According to the newspaper, the water concessionaire is asking that National Water Services Commission (SPAN) allow it to conduct the rationing with immediate effect.
The company said the urgency was necessary it was now faced with a water crisis, citing reserve levels that have dipped to just 2 per cent.
The mandated water reserve level is 20 per cent.
Areas that will be affected by the exercise include Kuala Lumpur, Hulu Langat and Klang.
