KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 4 — Heavy rain since afternoon caused a retaining wall to collapse at Kolej Serumpun, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Serdang near here today.
The 1.5m high wall collapsed about 6pm, crushing seven motorcycles which were parked at a parking lot nearby.
However, there were no reported casualties and the incident did not affect the hostel block at Kolej Serumpun.
Selangor Fire and Rescue assistant director (Operations), Mohd Sani Harul, said an engine with six firemen from the Serdang station went to the scene after receiving a call at 6.30pm and arrived there 12 minutes later.
According to a specialist in engineering geology at UPM, Dr Husaini Omar, the wall collapsed due to the presence of trapped water in the soil. — Bernama
