The Penang Chief Minister has called on an Umno assemblyman to apologise for spreading lies that three Chinese doctors in the state’s government hospitals refused to treat Malay patients, even after the Health Minister said no racism was involved in the cases.
Lim Guan Eng (pic), who is also DAP’s secretary-general, said Pinang Tunggal assemblyman Datuk Roslan Saidin should realise that he committed a grievous error by telling a lie in the Penang State Assembly during the last meeting.
“Roslan linked his claim of racist doctors to DAP’s successful campaign in causing the drop in support for the Barisan Nasional from the Chinese community in the 13th general election,” said Lim in a statement today.
Roslan told the assembly during its recent meeting that there were Chinese doctors who refused to attend to Malay patients, causing the state government to launch a probe and the ministry to look into the matter.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam told the media yesterday that there was no racism involved.
“It so happened that the doctors involved are Chinese and people who made the complaints were Malay patients,” he told a press conference yesterday.
He said poor communications skills could have contributed to the misunderstanding which brought about the racism complaints from the patients.
News sites have also called for a public apology from Roslan for stirring animosity between races.
