Water supply in several areas in Selangor restored

Water supply in Hulu Selangor, Kuala Langat and Kuala Selangor, disrupted by pollution of Sungai Selangor, was restored yesterday evening.

Syarikat Air Selangor (Syabas) Corporate Communications and Public Affairs assistant general manager, Priscilla Alfred said only some areas in Petaling, Kuala Lumpur, Klang/Shah Alam and Gombak were still experiencing water supply disruption including low water pressure.

“The development is due to the effort of Syabas in monitoring and handling the restoration of water supply including getting the cooperation of the operators of water treatment plants.

“This to ensure the water treatment plants are operating at maximum capacities,” she said in a statement in Kuala Lumpur today.

Following this, the number of consumers affected by water disruptions had dropped to 194,949 or 13 percent of the 880,000.

To help consumers of Syabas who were facing difficulties, Priscilla said Syabas had mobilised all available resources to send water via tankers and static tanks.

“To date, 316 deliveries have been made using tankers while 176 static tanks have been placed at strategic locations in the four affected areas,” she said.

However, she added, Syabas could not provide adequate resources to meet the need of all affected consumers because of the very large number involved.

Water supply assistance was more focused on premises like hospitals and medical centres, dialysis centres, mosques and funerals (to bathe the dead), she added.
