The Johor government will set up a committee under the purview of the State Economic Planning Unit (Upen), to gather and study fresh evidence on Pulau Batu Puteh.
Menteri Besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin (left) said the application to review the judgment on Pulau Batu Puteh must be made before a 10-year period from the date of judgment, based on Article 61(5), Chapter 111, Statute of The International Court of Justice.
"In the case of Pulau Batu Puteh, the judgment date was May 23, 2008 which means the appeal period will end on May 23, 2018.

The territorial dispute between Malaysia and Singapore which began in 1979 was resolved in 2008 by the International Court of Justice, which decided that Pulau Batu Puteh or Pedra Branca belonged to Singapore and Middle Rocks belonged to Malaysia.

However, he said, the application for appeal to the International Court of Justice on Pulau Batu Puteh must be made through the federal government as the case was between the Malaysian government and Singapore government.
He said the state government would seek the cooperation of the federal government for all expenditure incurred by the committee.
