Why bother with courts if minister has final say

FREE YOURSAY ‘Zahid, any further discussion and delay is contempt of court.’

No decision yet on cops acting in custody tussle

Anonymous_3f4b: If federal ministers can ignore a High Court ruling with impunity and on the flimsiest of reasons, then anarchy will ensue and the breakdown of the judicial system is inevitable.

To equate the syariah courts to the high courts is to infringe the sacred principles of the federal constitution and in the process create dual jurisdiction catering for different religions in the same system.

This will only lead to absurdities, inconsistencies, conflict of personal laws and overlapping interest and turn the country into a basket case of failed states.

Slumdog: Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, for goodness sake, there is already a court order for the father to return the child to the mother. The father is now in contempt of court. What the hell are you doing not enforcing the court order?

The time for talk and consultation is well and truly over and don’t waste your time procrastinating by saying you want to discuss with Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nancy Shukri and attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail.

Are you trying to be a hero for Perkasa, Isma and Jais and other Muslim bigots?

Argonist: Is the minister superior to the judiciary that he can defy the court ruling by attempting to delay implementing the decision? The same goes to the police in Penang who have been instructed to charge those who barged into the state assembly.

Mr Prime Minister, have you lost control of PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police)?

Malaysian Born: This is not a decision for review by the home minister or anyone else. Their role is now to expeditiously carry out the instructions of the court, no more no less. Any further discussion and delay is contempt of court.

Malaysian 53: Zahid "has been informed of the court decision", but yet to look into it. Why, not urgent enough? Because it is against the Syariah Court's "wrong" decision?

Now that the Ipoh High Court judge has made it very clear, and why still let the affected mother’s suffer? Just because the culprit is a converted Muslim, the entire Umno government hierarchy is protecting a criminal abductor?

Where is the rule of law, Zahid?

Dalvik: This is kidnapping. What’s there to discuss?

Ex-PJ: Zahid as usual wants the publicity, and is eyeing PM Najib Razak's job. Instead of implementing the court's decision, he is interfering in the law.

However, the majority of the people backing Umno see it as protecting Islam and they will approve of Zahid's move.

Zen: Whatever decision to be taken on this case, Zahid must put the interest of Islam and the Malays as the first priority. Don’t forget that.

Single Malt: Yes Zen, Islam is under severe threat in Malaysia. Figment of one's imagination?

Oh Ya?: This is the price Malaysians have to pay for electing a failed regime, a regime that has no hesitation to persecute dissidents and opposition twice for exercising their rights of staging legal assemblies and yet is dragging its feet when its members and followers committed blatant breach of the laws.

Apa Ini?: Why bother to have courts when rulings are not enforced and the home minister has the final say?

Anonymous_1371482984: What are our judges doing? This is a challenge to their authority. If the judges cannot enforce their own orders, we might as well close down the courts.

Our judicial system is now put to test on whether it has authority if the police refuse to act.

Vijay47: Dear Zahid, pardon me if I seem to be addressing a retard but your recent announcements and decisions have hardly inspired anyone to assume that you are blessed with even minimal intelligence.

Please note that despite all that ranting and raving, and the best efforts of Dr Mahathir Mohamad, this country operates on civil laws.

Secondly, you are the minister of home affairs and not the minister of syariah affairs. As such, you and that other retard, the IGP (inspector-general of police), are required to execute the civil law as it stands notwithstanding whatever position Islamic bodies may take.

The High Court has made a clear unequivocal decision and it is not for you, a mere politician, to choose which parts of the decision you wish to adhere to and which parts not to. You just do what the law demands.

Rakyat-in-grief: At this rate, why do we need a judiciary if the police and the home minister can deliberately disregard a court order?

It is now very clear that the civil court judges are toothless tigers. Such lawlessness, unless corrected, will definitely lead the country to utter disaster.

Dizzer: Maybe if Zahid refuses to abide by the legitimate rulings of Malaysia's judicial system, he should leave the country and find somewhere more conducive to live. Pakistan? Afghanistan? - Mkini
