Zahid slammed for silence on PCA

He refuses to give the names of panellists on the Prevention of Crime Act board.
IMG_20130713_130954KUALA LUMPUR: Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has come under fire again, this time for his refusal to reveal the names of members of the Prevention of Crime Act (PCA) board and the number of people detained under the law.
Speaking to reporters covering Parliament today, Kampar MP Ko Chung Seng of DAP said he was dissatisfied with Zahid’s response to his request for the details.
Zahid merely said the members of the board were people “of high integrity, have 27 years’ experience in the security industry, and are accomplished law practitioners”.
“Why is there such secrecy regarding the panel members for the PCA board?” Ko asked.
Since the PCA 2013 was enforced last April 2, more than 130 people have been detained without trial. This translated to about two people per day, Ko noted.
“I asked the home minister about the background of the people on the panel of the PCA, and who and what are the crimes of those detained.
“He said that whatever the reason for the detention of the people, or who the panellists are on the PCA, cannot be revealed because it will interfere with police investigations.”
One of the detainees is Tengku Arif Bongsu, a businessman who was arrested at his house in Kajang by about 30 police officers on April 13.
