The truth can not be hidden for too long and it will definitely find it's way out. This is a perfect analogy to describe Dr Mahathir Mohamad's situation now. No matter how much he tries to hide it, the truth will come out in the end.
Yes, there is something that the former Prime Minister is not telling us. In the long run, somehow it will be known.
So far, Mahathir has acknowledged the fact that there are other better candidates who can replace Najib. Although he did not enclose the identity of these candidates (naming only Muhyiddin), we can be sure that it is not Hassan Malek or Ahmad Maslan.
Although he said it in a cynical manner, he is not lying. He is very much aware about Muhyiddin Yassin's 'ability' to replace Najib (following the tradition which is in practice now).
Feeling guilty, Dr M?
The question is, who are the people or person (apart from Muhyiddin) that Mahathir mentioned about who have the capability to replace Najib? Why is Dr M ashamed to name the person. Is it because he feels guilty?
As I mentioned earlier, it cannot be Ahmad Maslan or Hassan Malek or not even a more qualified person like Khairy Jamaluddin. Mahathir has an opinion that Mukhriz is much better than the UMNO Youth Chief.
I can hazard a wild guess about the identity of the person that Mahathir secretly means. For time being, the two people who are still relevant to become the next Prime Minister are Anwar Ibrahim and Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah. Mahathir is very much aware about both of their abilities and influence.
If comparison is made in term of experience and charisma with people like Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Hishamuddin Hussein, then Anwar Ibrahim and Tengku Razaleigh appear to be more qualified.
Razaleigh is known for his professionalism and always appears to be a gentleman when it comes to politics. Razaleigh could not be the PM after Mahathir because the king's son is too good to play politics, although Mahathir had betrayed his trust earlier.
On the same note, Mahathir cannot forget Anwar's 'rudeness' but at the same time he cannot deny Anwar's abilities. During his 12 years of grooming Anwar to be his successor, Mahathir made a mistake by believing the hoax and rumors spread by the people who hated and envied Anwar.
That was the mistake that is ultimately causing so much of trouble to Mahathir in his quest to find a suitable successor.
Bringing Anwar back
Today, he seems to feel sorry for what has happened. But even if he wants Anwar to be back in government, it is not going to be easy because the power is now in Najib's hand.
I am certain that if Dr Mahathir had supernatural powers, he would find a way to release Anwar to save the country from Najib if he wants to do so. The question is does his hatred towards Najib surpass his revengeful-ness against Anwar?
Regarding Razaleigh, his age is a factor now. It is better to appoint Muhyiddin to be the PM rather than nominating Tengku Razaleigh. Muhyiddin will at least express his gratitude towards Mahathir (as what has happened in the past where Mahathir, returning his favor to Tun Razak, wrote to Abdullah Badawi telling the latter to appoint Najib as his deputy oprime minister).
Trust me. Dr Mahathir is in a dilemma now. He has suggestions but they are difficult to implement because the power now is centralized in Najib's hand. The only thing Mahathir can do may be to rotate his 'stories' at events organized by Ibrahim Ali. - http://msomelayu.blogspot.com/
