Tajuddin: We back PM, but he must fix 1MDB
RCZ: It is not a question of whether to fix 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB). The problem is the fixing is being done with public monies, and Umno is allowing it.
It is also a question of where the 1MDB monies have gone in the first place. If the monies were indeed lost, with Najib Razak as PM and finance minister taking advice from tycoon Jho Low - who himself received substantial amounts of the 1MDB monies - why doesn’t Umno ask this of their leader?
How did 1MDB make such big losses? Why was 1MDB monies paid to Jho Low or his companies, and how can Najib and his family afford such a lavish lifestyle?
Saphire: If Najib could fix the 1MDB problems, he would have done so long ago. It is only after 1MDB faced a cash-flow problem to the extent that it had to borrow from a private citizen that raised the alarm.
Doesn’t the Ummo supreme council feel the urgency? Give Najib some more time to fix the problem?
Simple Malaysian: I am just an ordinary man with no political affiliation to any party. I, too, would want to see 1MDB succeed as much as everybody else on the street.
However, we do not wish to see it doing this at the expense of our money (in Tabung Haji, KWAP [Kumpulan Wang Amanah Persaraan], EPF [Employees Provident Fund], etc).
Also the deals should not be done in secrecy, coupled with denials (as witnessed initially on the Tabung Haji deal).
What is wrong in being transparent in the first place? All the secrecy is only inviting more speculation and rumours, which incidentally thrive in a country with a highly-controlled media.
Ferdtan: This is orchestrated bravado to show that the supreme council members have done their duty in questioning their boss in the unpopular issue of the Tabung Haji deal with 1MBD.
Offer whatever platitudes and show pretentious outrage just to neutralise the uproar that are spreading fast in the Muslim community by the questionable act of the pilgrimage fund.
R1: Just because the land was sold, the issue is resolved. That’s according to the Umno supreme council. Wow, so much for accountability.
Odin Tajué: Supreme council member Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, you all have to support Najib, or else there will be no more juicy government contracts for you, while existing ones may be withdrawn for one reason or another. We all know that, don't we?
As for Najib fixing the 1MDB problems, it may be possible or it may be completely impossible. It all depends on what you mean by fixing or what you hope to see achieved.
One with no vested interest would be of the opinion that he will not be able to set things right. The recovering of the billions of ringgit that have disappeared, in whatever forms it may be now, will be not only an arduous task, but it will also render some parties liable to prosecution.
The web of deceit, subterfuge, chicanery and thievery has become so complex that to untangle it is far worse than to keep it as it is. Crimes, Tajuddin, never have a happy ending.
Abasir: Najib believes that he has the unstinting support of all Umno supreme council members, Umno members nationwide, Umno appointees in all government-linked companies (GLCs) and agencies, the Umno-controlled media, the ministries, the police and the armed forces, not counting the likes of Syed Mokhtar Albukhary, Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, et al.
All he needs to do is to get each one of them to contribute one third of all their assets to a ‘Save 1MDB Fund’ in return for their positions and titles and 1MDB problems will vanish in the time it takes to say "Rosmah Mansor is a blessing to Malaysia".
Furthermore, this solution will be in keeping with Umno's operating principle "You help me, I help you" and what’s more, it will save the party the embarrassment of another Tabung Haji-style expose.
All Umno Malays will have a renewed sense of confidence in him while the rakyat in general will get to recognise the selfless patriotism buried deep in its leaders.
Moreover, Perkasa will be thrilled that Malays are able to solve problems caused by Malays.
Beeja: Rescind the contract between 1MDB and Tabung Haji and restore the land to the government since 1MDB can't deliver on the intent (whatever that was, and to date there is silence from the Finance Ministry as to why these assets were transferred for a song to 1MDB in the first place). It's unjust enrichment by 1MDB, plain and simple.
Justine Gow: 1MDB is about RM42 billion in debts. This by itself is good reason enough to be concerned. How anyone can speak in support of it is beyond my comprehension.
If it had not been for whistleblowers, we may all still have been in the dark about hanky-panky activities such as the resale of land to Tabung Haji.
Pemerhati: It looks like a lot of top Umno people advised Najib on how to get the money to solve his 1MDB problem.
Perhaps someone might have suggested he should quietly take all the money he needs from cash-rich Petronas and leave all the other organisations alone so as not to offend the many people who have money in those organisations. -Mkini
