PAS president repeats party's stand to stand behind Pakatan Rakyat candidate.
KOTA KINABALU: PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has admitted he is unsure who among the party’s members had protested against Parti Keadilan Rakyat president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is the Pakatan Rakyat candidate in the Permatang Pauh by-election.
He said that they may be those who often resorted to provocative acts whenever elections take place in the constituency.
“We hope that these people are not from PAS. We hope so because there has already been a statement made by PAS Youth.
“The statement says we will work together (with our partners DAP and PKR) in Permatang Pauh. PAS’ central leadership had made a statement earlier that we were still with Pakatan Rakyat,” he said.
Abdul Hadi was speaking to reporters after officiating the Sabah PAS annual convention here today.
When asked why he did not go to campaign in Permatang Pauh, Abdul Hadi said he was busy with party events that had been set up earlier, besides having to make frequent trips to the hospital to receive treatment.
Asked whether PAS would cooperate with Pakatan Rakyat parties in Sabah, especially DAP which has rejected PAS involvement in the state, Abdul Hadi said it was up to each state coalition to decide but PAS at the central level was still a member of Pakatan.
Abdul Hadi also asserted that PAS was standing firm on imposing hudud criminal penalties in Kelantan and sticking to the agreement reached among the leaders of PR leaders earlier to respect each other’s differences.
