KUALA LUMPUR - The Terengganu legislative assembly agreed today to hike the salaries of all state lawmakers by up to 167 per cent.
According to The Star Online, this will affect the salaries of the state mentri besar, all state executive councillors, Speaker, deputy Speaker and all assemblymen.
There are 32 state assemblymen in the Terengganu legislative assembly.
The news portal reported that the motion for the pay rise was passed today after all state lawmakers voted in favour of it at today’s assembly sitting.
Terengganu state exco for trade and industry Datuk Tengku Putera Tengku Awang was quoted saying the last salary hike was in 2004.
“The decision to raise the salaries is due to the burden of increased duties and responsibilities,” Tengku Putra was quoted saying after assembly. - Malay Mail
