Police have 48 hours to respond to alleged rape threat

Maisara Amira’s lawyer also registers surprise that the investigating officer is clueless about the alleged rape threat.

KUALA LUMPUR: The lawyer representing Maisara Amira, has given the police 48 hours to respond to the threat of rape allegedly made by one of its officers against his client at the Dang Wangi police station on May 5.

“We have given them 48 hours to respond to the investigations, which the investigations officer had agreed to.

“If they don’t get back to us within that time frame, we will follow up with the necessary actions,” Faizal Rahman explained.

Heeding the instructions of the Inspector-General of Police, Maisara went to the police contingent headquarters with her lawyer, to give her statement.

Faizal however registered his shock on learning that ASP Maziah Hamziah, who is now handling the case, was completely clueless about the rape threat.

“Even the investigating officer who was taking the statement had no clue on the case and only took on the case on the particular morning before taking Maisara’s statement,” said Faizal.

Faizal said that they were called in to give a statement after IGP Khalid Abu Bakar tweeted his orders yesterday for Maisara to go to IPK KL instead of Dang Wangi, where the rape threat was allegedly made, to speed up investigations.

Faizal also said that ASP Maziah assured his client that all investigations about the rape threat would be carried out at the KL headquarters instead of at Dang Wangi.

This followed Maisara’s insistence for an independent probe on her allegation.

Maisara, was among those arrested after the May Day rally against the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in Kuala Lumpur. She was remanded for four days during which she claimed that an unidentified police officer in plain clothes at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters had threatened to rape her, and to record the act if she did not cooperate.
