An MIC division leader has been accused of molesting a staff member at his clinic in Kota Tinggi, Johor.
Kota Tinggi police chief Rahmat Othman confirmed with Malaysiakini that a police report had been lodged against the dentist.
"We have received a police report on the matter. The person who lodged the report claimed that her employer tried to commit sexual misconduct on her," he said.
The incident allegedly occurred on May 7 and the report was lodged on May 8.
Rahmat said the case is still under investigation as the police need to confirm from all aspects on whether the incident did occur or otherwise.
He added this is more so since there were no witnesses.
He also confirmed that the MIC leader had denied molesting his staffer.
"Of course he denied it. If not, we would have arrested him.
"But we have taken his statement and the investigations now centres on gathering other evidence," he said.
Admitting that investigations will take time, Rahmat said once confirmation is made on whether the incident did occur or not, the public will be made aware of it.
This is not the first time that such an incident had allegedly occurred.
The MIC division leader was also charged with molesting a patient back in 2009.
He pleaded not guilty to molesting the patient during treatment at his clinic.
Rahmat, however, confirmed that the dentist was later found not guilty by the courts.
"He was found not guilty by the courts as there was no evidence.
"As such, there is no record (of him committing sexual misconduct)," he said. - M'kini
