I am honoured and humbled by the Pakatan Rakyat to be picked as the Opposition Leader, says Permatang Pauh MP.
KUALA LUMPUR: Permatang Pauh MP Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said today she would accept the post of parliamentary Opposition Leader as recommended by Pakatan Rakyat.
She said she would issue an official statement on the matter on May 18 after she had been sworn in as an MP.
“I am honoured and humbled by the three parties (PKR, DAP and PAS of the Pakatan Rakyat) who have picked to be Opposition Leader.
“Yes, I accept the post because I have been the Opposition Leader before,” she told reporters here.
Dr Wan Azizah was the Opposition Leader from March to July 2008.
After Dr Wan Azizah won the Permatang Pauh seat in the 12th general election, she was endorsed by the Pakatan Rakyat to lead the opposition in the Dewan Rakyat.
She vacated the seat in July 2008 when her husband and PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim announced his return to politics.
Anwar won the seat in a by-election on August 26, 2008.
Dr Wan Azizah won the seat again, on May 7, after it fell vacant following Anwar’s conviction on a charge of having sodomised a former male aide.
