The 21-year-old who alleged that a police officer threatened to rape her during her detention over the May Day rally had her statement recorded by police yesterday, her lawyer said.
Faizal Rahman, who accompanied Maisara Amira together with lawyer Michelle Yesudas to the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters yesterday, also said he hoped police would communicate with them in a proper way and not through Twitter.
"I hope they will take this matter seriously as what they claimed," said Faizal.
"We have informed ASP Maziah that we are the lawyers who conducting the case, and if there is anything else to please inform us and not use Twitter like what the IGP did," he said, referring to the investigating officer in charge of the case, ASP Maziah Hamziah.
Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said on Twitter on Tuesday that a team from the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters had recorded statements from six witnesses and were now waiting for Maisara to record her statement.
He also asked Maisara's lawyer, G. Sivamalar, to contact the KL CID chief ACP Zainuddin Ahmad.
"@GSivamalar @PDRMsia Hubungi lah OCCI KL esok pagi, bawa Maisara ke IPK KL supaya kita segerakan siasatan". (Please contact OCCI KL tomorrow morning and bring Maisara to Kuala Lumpur police headquarters so we can speed up the investigation,” Khalid tweeted.
He was responding to Sivamalar’s comment on Twitter that the investigation team had yet to record Maisara's statement.
Faizal said they did not know under which law the case has been classified, adding that police would inform them.
"Yesterday, the recording of the statement took about three hours, from 12pm to 3pm. Maisara was asked how she was arrested, (she repeated) everything from the beginning, from May 1 until May 5 and how she was threatened with rape.
"It is still unknown under what section the investigation will be conducted, he (IO) said they will inform us later."
He said ASP Maziah assured them that an independent investigation would be carried out on Maisara’s report.
Maisara, 21, lodged a report at the Petaling Jaya police headquarters on Friday but police wanted her to record her statement at the Dang Wangi police headquarters, where the alleged threat took place.
She said the threat was made by a plainclothes policeman during questioning between 11.30am and 1.30pm on May 5, hours before she was released.
She wanted her case to be investigated by police from another district and not at Dang Wangi, where the alleged threat was made.
Police on Sunday said an inquiry paper was opened to investigate the case and had contacted Maisara, who was one of the 29 youths arrested after the May 1 anti-GST rally.
They were investigated for several cases of vandalism and damaging of public property during the rally.
