Why fear me, Pua asks critics wanting him out of PAC

An opposition MP today has questioned Putrajaya for having no confidence in the eight Barisan Nasional (BN) representatives in the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to handle the hearing of the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) controversy.
Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua, who is a PAC member from the opposition, said ministers and leaders, calling for him to recuse himself from the PAC, appeared to be afraid of being incriminated in the panel’s investigation on the troubled state-owned firm.
On the contrary, he said 1MDB was not afraid of the matter, reiterating that its president Arul Kanda Kandasamy and former CEO Datuk Shahrol Halmi would attend the hearing.

"If Arul Kanda and Shahrol do not fear coming to the PAC with me as a sitting member, why are the ministers suddenly so fearful of me?" he said.
"Instead, if the BN leaders are so concerned about shaming the investigation process, they should be asking Datuk Seri Najib Razak to take leave as he is directly implicated in the RM42 billion scandal," Pua said in statement.
The DAP national publicity secretary said this in response to Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek's call that Pua withdrew from PAC following his allegedly prejudicial views on the 1MDB fiasco.
Shabery said the government was now in the process of searching for the truth to resolve the 1MDB problem, and the DAP politician liked to issue judgmental comments while the PAC investigation was still ongoing.
Umno lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah first called for Pua's resignation five days ago and was subsequently supported by BN Backbenchers chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Samad.

Yesterday, the demands for Pua's removal escalated after Shabery went on a rant against his position in the PAC.

Pua said he was very amused as he could not understand why he should be ashamed of the statements he made about the monstrous RM42 billion 1MDB scandal.
"I am also clueless as to why my party, my supporters and those associated with me should feel ashamed about me bringing to light the misappropriations and mismanagement in 1MDB," he said.
