KUALA LUMPUR: Former Deputy Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Zakaria Jaffar retired today at the age of 58.
At his official retirement ceremony today, MACC Chief Abu Kassim praised Zakaria as an “officer of high integrity” and someone pivotal in building the winning culture among the employees of MACC.
“I am personally sad about Zakaria retiring especially when we’re facing challenging times.
“With that said, I am certain he will always be with us even after officially retiring today,” Abu Kassim said in his speech.
Zakaria when talking to the crowd, reiterated Abu Kassim’s observation that the MACC was indeed facing challenging times, and described it as “God’s test.”
“As a Muslim, I look at this as a test. We must stick together come what may. We cannot let other opinions affect our professionalism”, he explained.
“We are conducting ongoing investigations involving SRC International and the RM2.6 billion donation.
“I am confident that MACC will ensure the investigations are ‘very tight’ and are conducted comprehensively.”
The retirement ceremony for Zakaria was also attended by deputy chief of Operations Mohd Shukri Abdull, and deputy chief of Prevention (Pencegahan) Mustafar Ali, among many others.
Zakaria has been on leave since July 29, 2015. Today marks his official retirement after 33 years, two months and 11 days at MACC.
