"Najib owes a duty to 30 million Malaysians to demonstrate he is not guilty of criminal breach of trust." says Kit Siang.
PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Najib Razak should clarify whether the sacking of former Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail was related to the preparation of corruption charges against him (Najib), DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang said today.
Lim, in a statement, said such talk was prevalent, not only in the country but worldwide, and there is no way a “seasoned politician” like Najib is unaware of it.
The Gelang Patah MP also reiterated his calls for Najib to reveal the facts behind the RM2.6 billion donation, namely who donated it and for what purpose, who had benefited from the amount, what is left of the money, and why did Najib not put the money into Umno accounts.
“If an opposition party or individual had received RM2.6 bil from foreign sources for the last general election, all the enforcement authorities in the country will be crawling all over the party of the individual concerned, but clearly, this is not the case with Najib,” he said, adding that Najib owed a duty to 30 million Malaysians to demonstrate that he is not guilty of criminal breach of trust.
Lim called for an independent commission to be established to investigate the donation and 1MDB scandals.
“By MACC’s past records including those of its predecessor, all claims that it could investigate Najib’s twin mega scandals ‘freely, transparently and professionally’ is nothing but ‘hot air’.”
