Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali has denied seeking help from Lim Kit Siang during the 1970s in order to evade arrest under the Internal Security Act (ISA).
"He (Lim) is a big liar. This is a big lie by DAP," he told Malaysiakini.
According to Ibrahim, he never met Lim when he was a student activist and the latter, the parliamentary opposition leader.
"I strongly deny this. He is desperate, so he resorts to personal issues. Lim will make personal attacks if he cannot answer questions," he charged.
Yesterday, Lim claimed Ibrahim "frantically" sought his help to avoid detention under the now defunct security law.
The DAP veteran said he raised this issue some five years ago, and the Perkasa president did not dare dispute it.
Lim was responding to Ibrahim's statements earlier that he was losing sleep after reading DAP’s declaration that it is not anti-Malay or anti-Islam.
He questioned how come Ibrahim did not consider him objectionable as a so-called anti-Malay and anti-Islam politician at the point when he sought his help.
Recalling his ISA arrest in 1974, the Perkasa president said he could not be certain if someone else had turned to Lim during that period.
"As far as I remember, I never asked his help. I don't know if someone else did.
"This is because back then, many were arrested, including (former opposition leader and then student leader) Anwar Ibrahim," he added.
In his response yesterday, Lim also lamented how DAP and its leaders are being demonised.
"I have been in politics for 50 years, but suddenly, I and other DAP leaders have been demonised as anti-Malay and anti-Islam.
"Why were such lies and falsehoods not used on such massive scale against me in my 50 years of politics, until very lately – particularly after the 13th general election?" he asked.
According to Lim, this is because Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and Umno fear losing power in the next general election. -Mkini
