Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak was taken to task for not fulfilling his promise to US President Barack Obama by providing medical care to PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.
PKR Subang MP Sivarasa Rasiah, who said this, reminded Najib of the commitment he made to Obama during the latter's vist last November.
"The commitment has yet to be fulfilled," he said at a press conference in Petaling Jaya today.
It was reported that Obama had called on Najib to release Anwar in light of the latter's deteriorated health condition.
However, there was no report of Najib's reply.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reportedly said Anwar was treated locally for his health problem besides being allowed to bring in foreign medical specialists to treat him in Malaysia.
Zahid said this at a press conference in UK during his four-day visit there last year.
In June 2015, Najib had instructed that Anwar be given proper care.
The former opposition leader was jailed for five years in February 2015 on charges that he sodomised former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan in 2008.
Sivarasa said Anwar, who is serving his sentence at Sungai Buloh Prison, was currently in great pain and forced to take painkiller.
He condemned the government for torturing Anwar by denying him the intense physiotherapy as recommended by doctors.
The Subang lawmaker also criticised the government for cutting off Anwar's access to the world, and reducing his meeting time with his lawyers to only once a week for a maximum of one hour.
