KUALA LUMPUR ― Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak struggled today to hold back tears when he spoke about his father Tun Abdul Razak Hussein and the sacrifices he made for the country as its second prime minister.
In his speech at a special event to commemorate the life of Abdul Razak, Najib told the audience that his father had dedicated his life for Malaysia.
“He gave his life for this country. Today, 40 years after his passing, I stand before you and say that I am proud to be his son, and that everyday I work to live up to that lineage,” the tearful Najib said.
“He is an example for me and an inspiration for all Malaysians,” he added.
Najib was delivering the keynote address at the Special Commemorative Seminar on Tun Abdul Razak (Father of Malaysia's Development).
The function was attended by former top civil servants, representatives from various agencies and other dignitaries.
Najib is also scheduled to launch a book on Abdul Razak written by former Chief Secretary to the government, Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid, later today.
