Former law minister Zaid Ibrahim believes he might be subjected to a sedition probe over his article concerning a religious tussle case.
“Now I got to call bahagian jenayah (CID department) IPD Putrajaya on my article ‘My heart Goes to You Indira'. And my lawyers are still on vacation,” he tweeted.
“Probably sedition I guess,” he added.
Zaid, a lawyer by training, penned his frustration over the custody tussle involving K Pathmananan@Mohd Ridhuan Abdullah and his ex-wife M Indira Gandhi.
“M Indira Gandhi’s case never fails to make me feel angry and very sad.
“It’s heart-wrenching to know that a mother has been denied custody of her child simply because her ex-husband converted their daughter, then aged two years, to Islam,” he wrote.
When contacted by Malaysiakini, Zaid said the police contacted him today requesting to him to give his statement at the police station.
He said he will probably go to the Putrajaya district police headquarters early next week.
The article, Zaid said, appeared in The Star.
“I will go there with my lawyers and let's see how it goes,” he said, adding that he will inform the news portal if there is any development.
The former de facto law minister had already been charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court last month with causing 'annoyance by intentionally making statements that were hurtful to others'.
Zaid claimed trial to the charge under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act, for a speech he made on Sept 3, in calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak. -Mkini
