DAP members cried half a day over 'lost' seat

As PKR and DAP lock horns over seat negotiations, Sarawak DAP chairperson Chong Chieng Jen urged his ally to honour the commitment inked by the central leadership.
He said that in every negotiation for seats, there must be a win-lose situation.
For example, Chong said that a potential candidate has been identified for the newly-crafted Batu Kitang, a comparatively winnable seat in Kuching.
“They (DAP members) have been working there for a year but at last, we said we have to surrender it (Batu Kitang) to (PKR).
"Our members have been crying for half a day. They are very disappointed but they have to adjust themselves and help out in other contested constituences,” Chong told a press conference at the state DAP headquarters in Kuching today.
According to Chong, DAP should have priority over Batu Kitang, considering that the seat was crafted out from DAP-held Kota Sentosa and Batu Kawah.
“PKR has gained the best seat,” he said, adding that his party was willing to give up Batu Kawah in exchange for other seats.
Chong hit out at PKR, saying that its ally did not stand together to honour the seat negotiation agreement.
Azmin ‘not a nobody’ in PKR
Saying the agreement has the blessing of PKR president Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali at the April 7 meeting, he said the state PKR did not respect the negotiation agreement.
“It's an internal affair (in PKR), surfacing now to jeopardise Pakatan (Harapan).
“Some say Azmin has no authority to represent on their behalf. Then why do you send him to negotiate in the first place? Furthermore, Azmin is not a nobody but the deputy president of PKR.
“If he has no power, who (then) has power? He has signed theagreement,” Chong said, adding that he will not disclose the agreement to maintain the alliance.
Chong said he hoped Harapan allies would not have three-cornered fights with each other.
On Friday, Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian announced that he would veto the agreement set by the Pakatan Harapan presidential council and said the party may contest in seats which overlap with DAP's candidates.
Sarawak DAP had said it would proceed to contest the 29 seats as agreed upon with PKR's national leadership. -Mkini
