The checks on eight eateries in Section 7, Shah Alam, yesterday were over the display of incorrectly printed Quranic verses, according to the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS).
Its director, Haris Kasim, said the halal issue did not arise.
The checks were conducted jointly with the Home Ministry and the Shah Alam City Council, he said in a statement.
He said the order to bring down the displayed text was issued by the Home Ministry under Section 17 of the Printing of Quranic Text Act 1986.
The issue of the halal status of one of the restaurants went viral on social media after the operation.
