Is B.C. soft on corruption?

In July 2015, at the height of a scandal implicating the Malaysian government, the Wall Street Journal showed convincing evidence of nearly $700 million US in money transferred to the personal bank account of Malaysian president Najib Razak.

That did not dissuade Premier Christy Clark from convening a rare summer session of the B.C. Legislature for the sole purpose of passing legislation to facilitate a sweetheart deal with Petronas, the giant Malaysian oil and gas company wholly owned by the same corrupt Malaysian government that receives as much as 45 per cent of its total budget from Petronas, according to Reuters.

The foolishness of this deal is beyond words. Not surprisingly, the Panama Papers revealed that the son of the Malaysian prime minister is implicated in complex schemes of preferred buying options for shell companies associated with Petronas.

Will Premier Clark continue to say “yes” to corruption and sell the Skeena estuary and the future of B.C. to this mafia-like regime?
