Thailand’s restive southern province was in turmoil when three bomb blasts were reported in Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat this evening, leaving 10 policemen injured.
Narathiwat police chief Maj-Gen Pattanawut Angkanawin said, five local volunteer members in Takbai were injured when a bomb exploded at 4.30pm.
“The volunteers were returning from security duties at the election of village head in Mukim Chek He, Takbai. One of the volunteers broke his leg,” he told reporters today.
The bomb blast also severely damaged the vehicle they were travelling in, he said, adding that all the injured have been rushed to Narathiwat Rachanakarin Hospital.
About one hour before the incident in Takbai, a bomb had exploded in Pattani, reportedly leaving five policemen on security patrol injured.
Pattani police chief Maj-Gen Thanonsak Wangsupa said the bomb targeted police patrols between Nongchik district and Muang Pattani.
A bomb also reportedly exploded near Bachok District administrative offices, Benansetar, Yala, at 2.50pm, but no casualties were reported.
