KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keng has slammed the DAP-led Penang state government for failing to address concerns over environmental degradation and the clearing of hillslopes in the state.
The Gerakan president further accused Pakatan Harapan of “selling false hope” to Penangites.
“It begins with the problem of hill destruction. I have all these newspaper cuttings showing that the hills in Penang are becoming bald. This is the problem,” he said in his policy speech at the party’s 45th National Delegates’ Conference at Menara PGRM on Sunday.
The Gerakan president also chided the state government for not doing enough to address the rising cost of housing in the state.
“Many Penangites have complained that they can no longer afford to buy a house. Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng might get some discount but if he truly put the people in his heart, he should not get the discount but must find ways for the rakyat to get discounts,” he said.
Mah added that under Gerakan, Penang had experienced tremendous development, but at the same time the party had planned to develop affordable homes for the people.
“Before DAP took over the state, they promised the moon and the stars, but when they took over power, we no longer see the moon or the stars,” he said.
