THE FALL & FALL OF HADI AWANG: FROM FOLLOWER OF ISLAM TO PERSONAL MASSEUR OF NAJIB RAZAK

Hadi, are you Pak Turut or Pak Urut?

The PAS President is alleged to have said that in Malaysia, Islam as a religion is supposed to take the lead and the rest of the people are supposed to be followers.According to the Malay daily Sinar Harian report, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said, “Islam perlu menjadi pemimpin dan pemerintah, bukan Islam menjadi ‘pak turut’, agama dan politik jangan kita letak suku-suku (berasingan).”

Translated, Hadi said that Islam must be the leader and the government, not become the follower. He also said that religion and politics must not be separated.

Hadi has probably conveniently forgotten that in Islam, as a religion, it treats everyone equally – Muslims and non-Muslims – and social justice is the biggest pillar on which the religion is based upon.

Only that Muslims like Hadi tends to put himself in a basket and tries hard to hoist his own rope.

One must also question Hadi that if it is true that Islam must lead, then why is it that in PAS party itself – Hadi included – there are no Pak Turut to Islam, but only Pak Urut to those who claim they are championing Malay rights?

For Hadi seems to have ditched the very basis of Islam which throws away the very concept of race since the death of PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat, who was strictly against any form of racism – political parties included.

We can see that ever since Hadi had become friendly with Malay-only Umno, he has divorced the opposition which actually gave PAS the boost among non Muslims in the last few elections.

In the last PAS general assembly, he even became more Malay than the Umno Malay with his Hang Tuah-like regalia and pulut kuning giant cake.

We can also see that Hadi, while being Pak Turut with Umno, despite much opposition from his party – to the extent of many top leaders leaving the party to form another – Hadi has been more of a Pak Urut.

He is seen publicly massaging Umno and defended them in their policies under the guise of “for Islam and Malay unity sake”. His push for Hudud in Kelantan and the related Syariah Bill in parliament to amend the current Syariah laws have not only divided Muslims in Malaysia but made Muslims and non-Muslims question Islam itself.

(Hadi had moved a Private Member’s Bill which proposes changes to the Syariah Court (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 which is also known as Act 355.)

Despite Hadi’s uruts (massage), the Malays and the Muslims in this country is more divided than ever, with labelling and condemning.

The massaging by the Pak Uruts like Hadi and many other so called Muslim clerics have opened the doors even not to only “infidelise” (for want of a word) but also for a PAS leader to say that if PKR President Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail does not repent and support Hadi’s Bill, and should she die, she will be buried in a non-Muslim cemetery.

This then brought out some level headed Muftis like the Pulau Pinang Mufti Datuk Dr Wan Salim Wan Mohd Noor who said that it is wrong to say such things and that the syariah amendment which Hadi is pushing for is not divine law, but man-made.

Hadi has obviously failed to be the Pak Turut to Islam’s social justice, but for now, he is only known as Pak Urut to those who can give him his blood-thirsty ambitions to implement his man-made Hudud in Kelantan.
