Although showing no deference to the letter of demand from Bersih 2.0 chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah, the worries are written all over Jamal Mohd Yunos’ face.
By flushing the letter of demand down the toilet bowl, he clearly shows that reality has not dawned on the Sungai Besar Umno division chief.
He is still somewhere on cloud nine thinking that he has someone powerful to protect him. When that person is eventually sent to prison, Jamal will become a fugitive based on his character and thuggish actions.
For now, the police cannot touch him, but when there is a change of government, he will be running for his life. For now, he is threatening more aggression against civilians on the Bersih 5 convoy, a threat that would have earned him an immediate arrest.
It seems that the inspector-general of police, Khalid Abu Bakar is not doing anything about this man. Even after a police report was lodged by Mohd Ali Baharom (Ali Tinju) that Jamal had allegedly threatened to shoot him, Jamal’s pistol licence has not been recalled.
It is also apparent that the Umno disciplinary board no longer has the power or even show interest in hauling up Jamal or Ali Tinju for disciplinary actions. This is despite Umno already becoming a four-letter word to most urban households.
Therefore, the onus is now on Bersih to sue him for defamation and see how far he thinks he can go. He will reap what he sows.
Vote against BN
And if Jamal continues to harass the Bersih convoy, one resolution that we must all make is this - that we shall vote against Barisan Nasional (BN) for the next five general elections.
This should be the punishment that will teach Umno and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak a good lesson not to use thugs to do the job for them. In fact, we need more thugs to represent Umno in Malaysian politics.
Over time, BN will face a tough time if it continues to condone actions by thugs like Jamal. His actions amidst the silence of the others in BN clearly shows Jamal is their poster boy in the lead-up to the next general election.
Most of us still remember Perkasa’s president Ibrahim Ali and how he insulted our intelligence, as a result of which Umno and BN had to pay a hefty price for his silly and insolent gestures during the last general election.
Power is in the hand of voters and the consumers like you and I. We have shown that we have the power to change the course of our country’s future. In 2008, we saw the political tsunami. In 2013, we nearly saw a political earthquake. We have to keep at it and build the momentum!
It is time for the opposition to reunite under one banner and one common objective. We have to teach BN a good lesson.
Apparently, in the case of Jamal, he has not learnt from the failure of his Sekinchan Ikan Bakar franchise after most of us boycotted the business.
We all knew his franchise would fail after all, because he was not focused on building the business, but nothing killed the business more than the boycott many made against Sekinchan Ikan Bakar, when Jamal made his debut against Bersih 2.0 co-chairperson Ambiga Sreeneevasan.
Although we pity the franchisees who lost their investments, ultimately it is the franchisor that failed them because of he personally destroyed the brand that he created.
No chief executive officer of any franchise in the world who has a sound mind would associate themselves with a character like Jamal. Ask McDonald’s and Kentucky Fried Chicken to see if they would adopt Jamal as their brand ambassador!
Time for state government to act
There are rumours that the land that Jamal built his Sekin Hotel and Resorts at Bagan Sekinchan does not belong to him. It does not take much effort for the district officer to investigate the case.
If it is true that Sekin Hotel and Resorts is built on land which does not belong to him, then the Selangor state government should take firm actions against him and the resort.
If the land belongs to him, has he been paying the assessment rates and quit rent? If not, why has no action been taken against him by the Selangor state government?
I do not see why we should allow such a person to operate at his whims and fancies when others who have flouted the same law would have been penalised heavily or taken to court. Does he even have a permit to operate the resort? Are the safety regulations being abided by?
If someone like popular ‘Nasi Lemak Anak Dara’ proprietor, 24-year-old owner Siti Hajjar Ahmad, who was merely trying to earn a living yet was penalised RM2,000, there is no reason why someone like Jamal can be allowed to get away from any form of penalty.
With a character like him, I am sure there are other areas to investigate him as well, especially with regard to the sources of his income.
How can someone without a proper business have so much money to splash? Has he been paying his income tax based on the lifestyle that he is living?
