Muhyiddin's spokesman says former premier expected at Masjid Negara at 2pm.
PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has returned from a trip to Sudan and is set to join the Bersih 5 rally, alongside Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Muhyiddin Yassin and vice-president Mukhriz Mahathir.
Muhyiddin’s press secretary told FMT that Dr Mahathir, who is party chairman, was expected to arrive at Masjid Negara at 2pm.
However, it is understood, that Mahathir, Muhyiddin and Mukhriz may head to another rally meeting point as those rallygoers who had earlier gather at the national mosque have now moved on.
A photograph of Dr Mahathir in a Bersih 5 shirt is also circulating on social media. Mahathir supporter Firdaus Abdullah has posted the photograph, which appears to show Dr Mahathir alighting from an aircraft.
The former premier had been in Sudan for a conference. Mahathir loyalist Khairuddin Abu Hassan was reported to have said yesterday that Dr Mahathir may turn up at the rally after all after he had said earlier in the week that he could not attend because of his prior commitment. -FMT
